The Indy Open - What to Expect?

Written by Matt Evans

Welcome Legion players, we know that you may have a lot of questions about the Indy Open and what to expect. Whether you are on the fence or just curious and want to know more, this is the article for you. We want to give you an overview of what you will see and get you excited about what we are hoping will be the biggest legion event of the year for Indiana.

2 Days of Legion

The Indy Open will consist of 2 days of Swiss tournament play (Friday & Saturday, June 16-17) for a total of six games of Star Wars Legion. This is a great opportunity for Legion players to get in six games, enjoy an awesome community and win prizes all at an affordable price.

The entry fee is only $25. Our goal is making it accessible to almost everyone who wants to join. This is a great event for both newer and veteran players and everyone who participates will walk out with something in hand.

Streaming Games

We will have a streaming table setup for those that can't attend or just want to watch. As well as some ways for the community to interact and engage with the event. We will be streaming our games at https://www.twitch.tv/indygarrison.

Prize Support

One of the things I have always loved about TO-ing events is making sure everyone walks out feeling excited and ready to play in another day of events. That's why good prize support is so important to us. We want everyone to have an excellent time and have a chance to win big even if their games don't go their way. If you've been to any of our events in the last year, you know our prize support is BIG. Last year we gave away over $500 in prize support.

100% of your ticket price goes straight to funding the prize support for the event. That's right, EVERY PENNY. We take pride in our ability to cater to every player at our events, and we want to do the exact same for our biggest event yet. So, that begs the question, what can you win?

Swag Bags

Every player will leave with a "swag bag." People may be familiar with the term as it is used at large gaming events across the globe. For those who don't know what this is, it is a kind of mystery bag that may contain items such as: custom cards, dice bags, legion tools, 3d printed minis and much more.

The Top 8 Placements

Each of the Top 8 players at our event will win a fabulous trophy and a gift card. With an event this size, we will be doing a post event blog article featuring your name and list details. We will also be inviting the top 4 players onto a special Indy Open podcast episode of Garrison Talks (which is now available on YouTube).

Bounty Boards

What is a bounty board? Well I'm glad you asked! This is a list of particular achievements that you the player have a chance to complete. This adds yet another layer to the Indy Open for players to engage in that isn't related to the leaderboards. The player that wins a particular category walks out with a fabulous prize! If you have additional questions on the bounty board and how to complete them, feel free to reach out to us at indianapolisgarrison@gmail.com. If not, then buy some extra immobilize tokens or start crafting your costume in preparation for June!

Best in Show

The player that doesn't drop and finishes at the bottom of the standings will win a wonderful 3D-printed terrain piece. This is a size able piece of terrain to show that no matter where you fall in the lineup we are glad you came. All hail the "best in show!

Painting Awards

At the end of Friday, we will hold a painting competition. Players can submit an army or a unit to be voted on for best painted Army/Unit. The winning painters will be awarded a paint set as well as a painting award plaque.

Raffles anyone can win!

We will have a handful of items to raffle off at the end of Saturday. This will be things that any player outside of the top 8 can win.

*(Examples of past raffles: core sets, comic books, legion boxes, token sets, etc)

More Ways to Win

Is that not enough? I'm glad you think so, because we have even MORE ways for you to win cool stuff.

Terrain Competition

Do you have a table of terrain you want to show off? We want you to bring it! Submit your terrain for approval and once approved, you can show it off at the Indy Open. The winner of best submitted terrain can win a fabulous prize. Submit your Terrain here.

Best List Name

With the new hotness that is Game Uplink, players can now come up with custom names to display for their list. At the start of the Friday, we will have a live link to vote for the Best List Name. Indy Open Players AND people who tune into our live stream can vote for their favorite list name.

*(List must follow safe for work common sense language. Those who don't follow this are subject to penalty)

Player Packets

It's important that each of our players know what to bring and how to prepare for our event. Some, if not most of you, may have questions about what minis you can use and if they are legal. For the most part, we will be using the official AMG "Galactic Conquest Event" rules for the event.

Below is a brief overview of the player packet rules for the Indy Open, specifically ones that stray from the path laid out in the Galactic Conquest Event packet:

  • Armies do NOT need to be painted. Models are not required to have basing materials but should be on the appropriately sized bases. With no painting requirement, we STRONGLY encourage players to have an easy method for both themself and their opponents to dilliniate squads from each other for ease of gameplay.

  • Any 3D printed minis, mods, or proxies should be approved by a Tournament Organizer (Consular) for usage in this event. We encourage all players to use official Atomic Mass Games miniatures and custom miniature alike, but we simply ask that whatever is used is easily identifiable to the unit they are representing.

  • Players should have all materials needed to play Legion. This includes: tokens, models, game tools and associated unit / upgrade cards. (This includes a trooper silhouette!)

  • Lists must be uploaded to the Game Uplink event page before registration on Friday. Lists should be submitted in a Table Top Admiral or Legion HQ format for data collection purposes. Players must include Battle Cards and Command Hand.

  • We are using Game Uplink for the event. Game Uplink registration will open in May. You can then sign up and we will double check your entry against ticketing, and approve you once it’s been verified. This will allow you to submit your list on time and help us with day of check-in.

If you've got more questions about the event or want to help us in any way pull off this amazing event feel free to reach out to us at: indianapolisgarrison@gmail.com. If not, see you in June and may the force be with you!
