Indianapolis Tournament Circuit - Top 8

Updated: Jul 11, 2022

Top 8 list breakdown for the Summer Smackdown event in Indianapolis.

Written By Matt Evans

Indianapolis had a 26 person local tournament event on the southside of Indy at Game Preserve, awesome store, tell them I sent you. ;)

We had a wonderful event complete with a bounty board, best in faction, best painted and prizes for top 4. Here are the top 8 lists and breakdown of their list.

8) Kallus & Double Bounty – John McNeil

John has been practicing this list for a while and boy is double bounty a fun list. This is a list with decent activation control, LOTS of critical and flexibility to pressure its opponents heroes.

Cad Bane and Boba Fett allow this list to flank and go hard after heroes while the bulk of the list can dig in and punch suppression and criticals at their opponent from long range.

John pulled a couple of bounties and managed to walk away in 8th place.

7) Maul & Gar Saxon – Frank Sneyd

Frank has a power house of a list. Maul and Gar Saxon, 6 cunning Maul cards, 4 range 4 guns and a close range black sun with scatter gun.

This list wants to find you and make you hurt. Maul and black sun like to get in close while the pyke handle objectives and poking at range. Then Gar Saxon can flex into medium and close range to be the swiss army knife you need him to be. Overall a very strong list.

6) Vader & Speeder Bikes – Adam Knauff

This is a very cool interpretation of a Vader team. With speeder bikes and full scout troopers with grappling hooks this list is fast and gets into close range very soon. Vader is the knife to cut through troopers and other obstacles while everything else advances to get in close and the speeder bikes hit the flanks.

5) Kalani & Snail Tank – Trent Hale

Trent was our only Droid player in the top 8 and his list is a pretty hearty one. Kalani, battle droids, Magna Droids and B2 super battle droids in a snail tank. This list wants to say hello there with B2's inside a snail to all your nice centerpieces. It has some great ways to answer armor skews, standard amazing droid activation control and lots of ways to get extra juicy tokens.

4) Krennic, Kallus & Vader – Joseph Hicks

Joe has a list that most opponents are just not prepared to answer. This list loves suppression and wants to give them out in an explosive way. 3 Sonic Sabatours, Master of Evil Vader bomb, Mortars, Deathtrooper suppressive gun and annihilation looms.

This list wants to fill all your corp units with fear to run away and take your fun heroes and make them quiver in their boots. With a couple ways to compel and keep decent order control this is a terrifying list that made it's way to the top 4.

3) Maul-bin Time – Tyrus Neff

Do you like red saves with surge? What about adding heavy cover and 2 shields to those defense saves? Oh and a free dodge token from Maul? Yeah this list has those. This list likes to poke at range 4 while Maul and his entourages charge in to mess you up.

Maul is the hero of this team that likes to get into the fray, pun intended, and get buried in your forces while Mandalorians get in close forcing you to chose either shooting into a force user or those juicy beskar armor saving dice.

2) Yoda, Rex, Padme – Brian Baer

Oh boy, where do I start. I don't know which part of this list is the craziest, 7 activations or the shotgun clone gunline. If you don't know Brian he's one of our Garrison crew recently made "famous" at Adepticon for his crazy "Deep Dish" list.

At first glance this list is a pass, 7 activation is scoff-able at best. That is until you see Brian play this team. Round 3 his opponent was a 13 activation droid team with AAT. Force barrier, double vigilance, exemplar and situational awareness on all the corp unit and Padme. This team can soak up some SERIOUS wounds and was able to climb all the way to top 4.

1) Smuggler Run– Matt Evans

So I finally did it. I took a good long hard look at Lando after going to adepticon and realized how much I wanted to play him and build him into a gnarly competitive team. He's been mostly non-existent on table tops in our local area and even in higher competitive play he doesn't see much use.

This team is a very flexible scalpel. The rebel salad with 4 infiltration options, 4 recon intel's and 2 detachments. This team has decent range, decent anti-armor and incredible ability to bury itself further up in the board and punch holes in the soft spots of the opponents army. It also has ways to fire support Lando, set up lots of range 3 standbys and send charging Wookiee's at its opponent.

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more info on our next event.
